Air Fryer Egg Rolls Recipe: A Healthier Twist on a Classic

Crispy Air Fryer Egg Rolls

Yields: 12 egg rolls Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook time: 12-15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • For the filling:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 pound ground pork, chicken, or turkey

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger

  • 1 medium carrot, shredded

  • 3 scallions, chopped

  • 3 cups shredded green cabbage

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar1

  • For assembly:

  • 12 egg roll wrappers

  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)

  • Oil, for brushing (or cooking spray)

Equipment:

  • Air fryer

  • Large skillet

  • Small bowl

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  3. Add ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

  4. Add garlic and ginger; cook for 1 minute more.

  5. Stir in carrot, scallions, and cabbage; cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  6. Season with soy sauce and rice wine vinegar.

  7. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  8. Assemble the Egg Rolls:

  9. Place an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond).

  10. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of filling onto the center of the wrapper.

  11. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the side corners.

  12. Brush the top corner with beaten egg and roll up tightly to seal.

  13. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.


  14. Air Fry the Egg Rolls:

  15. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C).

  16. Place egg rolls in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not touching (you may need to cook in batches).

  17. Lightly brush or spray the egg rolls with oil.

  18. Air fry for 6-7 minutes, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Tips & Variations:

  • Vegetarian Filling: Substitute the ground meat with crumbled tofu or finely chopped mushrooms. You can also add bean sprouts, water chestnuts, or bamboo shoots for extra texture.

  • Spicy Filling: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to the filling.

  • Dipping Sauce: Serve with your favorite dipping sauces, such as sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, or duck sauce.

  • Reheating: To reheat leftover egg rolls, place them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes, or until heated through.
